Ayurvedic Management of Diabetics(high blood sugar)

pancreas are unable to produce sufficient insulin to maintain a healthy level of blood sugar. Ayurveda sees diabetes as a metabolic Kapha type of disorder in which the digestive fire (Agni) has a lowered functioning. This leads to a tendency to have a high blood sugar. Some factors responsible for diabetes include hereditary factors, stress, smoking, improper dietary habits, imperfect digestion, metabolism and utilization of nutrients at tissue level.
It is a silent killer which is the cause of many other serious problems. The early symptoms of diabetics are excessive thirst and urination, fatigue, weight loss and blurred vision etc. Ayurveda is very effective in tackling this problem and detailed description of longstanding effects of diabetes and its treatments are described in its ancient texts.

Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations:

  • Make exercise a priority, and work to increase daily activity.
  • Eliminate refined sugars and white flour from the diet.
  • Include soybeans in the diet for iron, calcium, vitamin A, protein, and fiber.
  • Consider adding a time of meditation every day to control stress.
  • If you are overweight, rigidly control portions and caloric intake
  • Eat more orange and lemons.
  • Eat a lot of green vegetables, black gram, soy, fish etc

Ayurvedic home remedies you can try:

  • Boil three tablespoons of cinnamon for fifteen minutes, strain, and drink throughout the day.
  • Take a mixture of bay leaf, turmeric and aloe Vera gel, twice daily, before lunch and dinner.
  • Eating grapefruit may also have a beneficial effect on sugar levels.
  • Keep water from river or spring in silver cup for 8 hours and drink in the morning

A qualified Ayurvedic doctor will first diagnose and differentiate the disease and dosha vitiation.
Therapies like Sarva Kaya Abhyanga, Shiro Dhara, Pizhichil, Virechan, Navarakizhi, Vamana, Kashaya Vasti, Yogic exercises and Meditation along with preparations for internal and external use are prescribed.
